This year's festival includes productions of Li-ying Chien's Dress in Code directed by I-Chen Wang, Enda Walsh's Arlington directed by Jane Skapek, and Aleshea Harris's Is God Is directed by Bakari Lebby.
I-Chen Wang is an international director based in NYC. Her directorial view ties closely to her observation and personal experiences on navigating national and gender identities as a Taiwanese woman. She creates in various forms, including new plays, experimental operas, and live-stream performances. She holds a BA at the National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA) and is expecting her theater directing MFA degree at the New School of Drama in May 2022. Her most recent work includes a new play: Isabel by Ruth Tang (2021); an opera film: Eternal Rest, composed by Willem Oosthuysen and written by Tristen Moseley (2021).
Jane Skapek has been a New York City based artist for ten years. Selected directing credits include Hamlet (The New School), Salome (The New School), The Prisoners of Quai Dong (The Tank/Prism Stage Company), New York Mining Disaster (Hangar Theatre Lab Co.), Marat/Sade (Fordham University), The Laramie Project (Theatrical Outreach Program). Selected assistant director credits include Girls and Boys (Minetta Lane), The Lightning Thief (National Tour, Theatreworks USA), Constellations (Hangar Theatre) and Angels in America (Broadway, 2018). Jane is an Associate Member of SDC and a recipient of the Doug Hughes Directing Scholarship.
Bakari Lebby is a third year MFA directing candidate. Bakari holds a BA in Theatre from the University of South Carolina (2013). Recent directing credits include WORLDS MELT (The New School), SUNSET BABY (Trustus Theatre), STICK FLY (Workshop Theatre), a reading of DON’T LOOK BLACK (Tennessee Playwrights Studio) and assistant director on SPELL #7 (The New School). @karilebby www.bakarilebby.com
